Cynthia Able is an avid collector of vibrant packaging and advertising, which she repurposes into free-moving, brightly colored mixed media collages. Her preferred method involves carving free-form abstract shapes from Bristol paper with a box cutter, selecting eye-catching textures and vivid patterns from Vogue or other fashion magazines, and deconstructing books and editorials (quite literally) in newspapers. Inspired by Gustav Klimt, Cynthia’s work explores femininity and sexuality, but instead of creating for a male gaze, she hopes to direct her art towards women.
